Full Body Chiropractic Adjustments

The word “Chiropractic” comes from the Greek words chiro and praktikos, and means “effective use of the hands”. The primary treatment method in chiropractic is the “adjustment”; this treatment focuses on misalignments or fixations of the spine and other affected joints. These misalignments or fixations cause pain and inflammation around the joint, which can place pressure on nerves and other sensitive structures. The adjustment is usually done by hand, but we can utilize a wide range of treatments when delivering this type of health care. We have learned that this diversified approach allows us to customize treatments for best results for each patient rather than universally performing one particular method of care.

We adjust patients using a variety of techniques including:

  • Diversified
  • Thompson drop
  • Gonstead
  • Low force Molding and Mobilization
  • Activator
  • Extremity adjustment
  • Low force infant adjusting

We also teach and encourage patients to make positive changes to there lifestyle and work habits (lifting technique, ergonomic assessments, etc.) thereby reducing their need for care in the future.

Physiotherapies

We utilize the following therapies to enhance the effectiveness of the adjustment:

  • Interferential: Gentle electric stimulation to reduce muscle spasm, pain and swelling and increase circulation.
  • Ultrasound: The use of high frequency sound vibration to create a micro-massage to soft tissues and joints. This reduces swelling and helps to break up adhesions in soft tissues.
  • Intersegmental traction: We use various methods to induce stretch and release of the joints in your neck and low back.
  • Active Myofascial Release Technique and Trigger Point Therapy: These are soft tissue mobilization techniques similar to massage which help to relax tight muscles and remove adhesions.

Exercise Rehabilitation

We have found that Chiropractic care can be made even more effective by the addition of an appropriate therapeutic exercise routine. This can be as simple as two or three stretches which you perform at home to a complicated physical rehabilitation program performed under supervision at our office. Studies show that this optimizes the speed of healing and improves function rapidly and effectively.

At Cannon Valley Chiropractic we have a nicely equipped rehab room available to those patients who can benefit from its use.

Massage Therapy

Deep Tissue Therapeutic Massage is designed to relieve tension and break up adhesions in the muscles, connective tissues and fascia. This type of massage uses firm pressure to treat those who experience chronic pain, are involved in heavy physical activity, such as athletes, and patients who have sustained physical injury.

Swedish massage is a gentle, relaxing massage technique has shown to be helpful in reducing pain, stiffness, and improving general physical function and state of mind. It has also been shown to be helpful in individuals with poor circulation.

People use massage because it relieves pain from musculoskeletal injuries and other causes of pain, reduces stress and enhances relaxation, rehabilitates sports injuries, decreases feelings of anxiety and depression, and increases general well being.
